Increased Activity in Crypto Mining Guidance from ADGM Authorities

This week, the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) authorities were notably more active than usual, with both the Financial Services Regulatory Authority and the ADGM Registration Authority issuing consultation papers on proposed guidance for crypto mining activities. This marks a significant increase from their typical output, as neither authority had any baseline activity in the past three weeks. Meanwhile, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) also released items, aligning with their recent average activity levels. The focus on crypto mining guidance suggests a concerted effort within ADGM to address regulatory clarity in this emerging sector. Overall, the week was characterized by a thematic emphasis on virtual assets and regulatory updates, particularly concerning high-risk jurisdictions and crypto mining, indicating a proactive stance on evolving financial technologies. No unusual enforcement actions or shifts from consultation to enacted rules were observed, making it a week of strategic regulatory discussions rather than immediate regulatory changes.
